Prospect Watch: El Paso rode excellent starting pitching to a win against Oklahoma City Tuesday night. … Third baseman Gage Workman had a nice night at the plate with three hits, including a double. It was the third straight multi-hit effort for the former Tiger, who seems to be breaking out of a slump. Coming into Tuesday’s game, the ASU product was hitting just .194/.268/.194 in his first 10 games as a Chihuahua. … Mason McCoy had a pair of singles and stole his 31st base of the season to extend his career-best total. The 31-year-old infielder has played a solid shortstop to go with a solid 10% walk rate. McCoy doesn’t hit for a ton of power, and his .395 slugging percentage in the PCL has resulted in overall offensive production 18 percent below league average. … Righty Sean Boyle earned his ninth win of the season, tossing six strong innings in the win. The former Yankees farmhand allowed two runs on six hits, walking three and striking out three. The 29-year-old righty has given El Paso 106 innings this year, but his lack of big-time stuff has led to a 5.80 ERA. Despite the rough numbers, Boyle ranks sixth in the league in innings pitched.

Prospect Watch: The Missions tallied seven hits but could not push across a run, losing to Springfield in a shutout loss. … Alex McCoy saw his 11-game hitting streak end on Sunday, but he managed to get a single in four plate appearances Monday to try to start a new one. McCoy has produced an .862 OPS since joining the Missions, though his strikeout rate has gone up to 29.8%. … Luis Verdugo had a pair of singles in the Missions’ loss. The 25-year-old older brother of Rosman signed with the Padres organization after spending 2025 in the Phillies organization. Verdugo has a career-high eight homers this season to go with a subpar .677 OPS. … Righty Eric Yost turned in a rare clunker and lost his third decision of the season with the Missions. Yost allowed season-highs with six earned runs and 11 hits. He walked one and struck out four. Despite the poor outing, Yost has tossed at least five innings in six consecutive starts. Overall, the 23-year-old has a 3.63 ERA for the Missions.

Prospect Watch: Despite tallying five extra-base hits, the TInCaps went down to Dayton to open the final series of the year at Parkview Field. … Kasen Wells had a pair of hits, including a homer that cleared the wall in right. It was Wells’ second homer of the year, but the first that left the park. The speedy Wells has struggled to make contact in August, and with his lack of power (Tuesday notwithstanding), it is a recipe for ineffectiveness. He’s struck out 22 times in 79 August plate appearances while hitting .200/.269/.267 this month. … Kerrington Cross had two more hits as he is finally finding his groove in High-A. The former Cincinnati Bearcat struggled in July, hitting just .200 with four extra-base hits. He’s looked much better at the plate in August, posting a .390 OBP in 59 plate appearances. At 24, Cross is a bit old for the level, but between Lake Elsinore and Fort Wayne has a .922 OPS in 99 games. … Robbie Lavey made the start at designated hitter and had a pair of hits, including a double. The 20-year-old backstop has shown some pop since joining the TinCaps, collecting two doubles and two homers in nine games. He has an .817 OPS in a limited sample. … Righty Winyer Chourio tossed 2.2 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits. He walked two and struck out seven. The right-hander has shown good stuff this season but has struggled to command the strike zone consistently. He’s walked 23 batters in 31 innings since joining the Fort Wayne roster. Including Tuesday’s start, the 22-year-old has a 7.55 ERA with the TInCaps, despite having 38 strikeouts in 31 innings.

Prospect Watch: Despite the services of a rehabbing major leaguer, the Storm lost their eighth straight, this time at the hands of the Quakes. … Nick Pivetta drew the rehab assignment, and his second turn in Lake Elsinore went smoother than his first. After walking off the mound in the middle of an inning a few weeks ago, Pivetta lasted three innings Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out four, tossing 47 pitches, 35 for strikes. Of course, the story will be how Pivetta feels in the morning. The veteran righty will likely need at least two more starts before being a realistic option for the big league club. … Jesus Castro came in behind Pivetta and gave up a pair of runs over four innings, striking out seven without issuing a walk. The 19-year-old had limped through August coming into this one, but has continued to rack up 20 strikeouts in 14.2 innings. … After a slow series last week against the Giants, Nu’u Contrades connected on his third homer since joining the Storm roster. The former ASU star has hit well since signing as the Padres’ sixth-round pick last month. Overall, he is hitting .286/.385/.500 in 16 games. … Jose Verdugo had a pair of hits and added his 32nd stolen base of the season. The 18-year-old – who is unrelated to Rosman and Luis – has shown excellent bat-to-ball skills, but his lack of power has resulted in a subpar .677 OPS this season.
